I am a features writer and freelance editor for ICON, the monthly luxury style supplement of Welt am Sonntag, Germanys largest quality Sunday newspaper and a contributor to other publications from the DACH region. I have an educational background in political science, an early career as writer and documentary filmmaker in music- and fashion journalism for the French-German cultural channel Arte and a personal interest in art, design, craft and a huge love for nature.

My main focus of interest are people, cultural phenomenoms, destinations and journeys, that bring surprise, thoughtfulness, taste and meaning to their offer. Shaped by individuals, who want to make a difference in a world, that is burdened by globalised tourism and high paced consumerism.

In culture and travel we often look for the other and ideally find in it also a part of ourselves. This is what I look for at the core of all my stories: a common love for the wondrous ways of life, nature, art and human beings.

”A remarkable writer and journalist gifted with astute insight and a finely tuned intuition. Her ability to see things as they truly are, and to articulate these truths with clarity and compassion. Her contributions are invaluable, and her voice is one that the world needs to hear.”

Matthew Saus, co-owner of “The Manta Resort”, Pemba Island, Tanzania

”A genuine  and rare open-mindedness and curiosity, great class in all respects, discretion and kindness, empathy, culture, intelligence, all of which feed into her journalistic integrity. She researches thoroughly, writes beautifully, and as a bonus, she is funny, generous, charming and great fun to be with.”

Ileana von Hirsch, owner and founder of Five Star Greece

”Heike’s wit, intelligence, sense of humor and deep understanding of us humans including failures as well as accomplishments makes her such a delightful person to be with. She has a never ending curiosity. We share a passion for beautiful objects, art, books and people. I also find her to be a courageous woman in her own life, constantly exploring the world. Reading her pieces is pure delight for me.”

Caroline Neuendorf, owner of The Neuendorf House, Mallorca

”I met Heike in the post-covid summer in Positano. While the whole world paints my town like a postcard, I wanted to tell how a more careful look could reveal its fragility. Heike was able to listen and convey precisely this more complex image connected to the global theme of the sustainability of the economic development of a small town in southern Italy. I had the feeling that she knew how to share my vision and tell it to the world.”

Gabriella Guida, owner Hotel Pupetto, Positano

”To work with Heike Blümner is a delight. She is full of passion, deep knowledge, ideas and diligence. Today in journalism this is not a given trade. Her love for stories, humanity, special places, art and craft meets her ability not only to look, but to see. Her contributions have a broader cultural value. She is such an excellent author and great person.”

Inga Griese, founder of ICON magazine, editor in chief until 2024 now publisher

”I’m not sure I’m the right person to comment Heike’s piece on Positano because it touches me directly, but I will say one thing: Heike has managed – the first and only writer and journalist that I know – to capture the essence of Positano as it is today and as it was then. She’s painted a picture with a soft brush, that allows the past to seep through into the present with wonderful lightness and clarity, and out comes todays truth. Steinbeck could not have wished for anybody else to follow in his footsteps and pick up where he had left.”

Marina Sersale, photographer, founder of the fragrance brand Altaia and Eau d’Italie, daughter of Paolo Sersale, co-founder of the Le Sirenuse

”An encounter with Heike is an encounter on how press professionals should work: curious, cultured, passionate (kind of Italian style...) and with in-depth vision. Heike is the perfect counterpart for us, as communicators of Travel & Lifestyle excellences. We have been collaborating with her – more than 10 years - from Venice Lagoon to Sicily, from Florence and Tuscany to Alta Badia to create unique stories - for her commissioning Media outlets - with always a very special angle.”
